I had the privilege of completing a commission for the Stellenbosch Business School, which involved creating three digital illustrations that capture the unique environments of Cape Town, Bellville, and Stellenbosch.

Each piece was printed at 1.5 x 1.1 meters and framed in a sleek box frame.

The brief provided a fun challenge, requesting a style reminiscent of the “Where’s Wally?” concept—an engaging sense of chaos where there is always something new to discover. While the direction was clear, I was given the creative freedom to interpret this concept in my own way.

The composition process for this project was a bit challenging, as it involved integrating various elements, including nature, cityscapes, animals, people, and their interactions. I wanted to avoid a central focal point, allowing the viewer’s eye to wander, yet it was essential to create an entry point into the image. From there, the viewer could explore the scene on their own.

I’m pleased to present the first completed and framed piece, titled Cape Town Culture, now ready to be displayed at the Stellenbosch Business School.

For the color palette, I opted for a minimal approach, drawing inspiration from Stellenbosch University’s brand and accent colors. The result came together rather nicely.

A special thank you to Karin at Kijk Design Studio, Rustum and Nadia from Free the Walls, and the team at Stellenbosch Business School for making this project possible.

It was a rewarding challenge, both engaging and enjoyable. Looking forward to completing the next two pieces!
